Expeditions and Guided Dives for 2012 Dive the Bell Island Wrecks, Newfoundland, Canada
The first time I was invited to dive the Bell Island Wrecks, I nicknamed the area "Truk Lagoon, North. I was totally blown away by the quality of the diving and the unexpected luxury of the little resort we were staying at and the operations and layout of the dive boat we were diving from. I returned several times with my own groups to Conception Bay South and never came away dissappointed with the experience, and never had a single complaint. During the past three years, I have been unable to get back to Bell Island, but every year I get a bunch of requests to organize another dive adventure to Canada's far east coast. Finally, the stars have aligned or something has fallen into place, and Ocean Quest -- an award-winning tourism outfit responsible for opening up the wrecks and helping to preserve them -- has an opening for one week in early August 2012. This is your invitation to join me. This will be a fully guided week-long charter. We will be in Newfoundland for seven nights staying at Ocean Quest's lodge, and will dive on the Bell Island Wrecks for five days. The lodge has tanks, nitrox and trimix station, and a full-service dive shop. The rooms are well appointed, with private bathrooms, a shared sauna, as well as a huge common room, patio, BBQ etc. The trip price includes airport shuttle, rental of doubles and deco stage, nitrox fills, boat charters, breakfast, and a boat lunch (which is legendary!). In the past, my groups have taken care of our suppers collectively (we split the grocery bill and I cook with help from whoever wants to join-in). One evening we will do the cultural tour of downtown George Steet, in St. Johns (Screech anyone?), and there will be one evening meal with our hosts, the Stanleys. Newfoundland is a wonderful spot... the scenery is spectacular, the locals are hospitable, and the diving is truly memorable. (This is cold-water ocean diving but the visibility is 30 metres and the wrecks really are among the best WWII casulaties I have seen anywhere.) I can supply full details... but spots are limited and I need to confirm with Rick Stanley BEFORE March 1, 2012... email me to hold your spot (deposits will be paid directly to Rick at Ocean Quest once we have worked out final numbers). Price for the week as outlined above is $2,155.00 including local taxes. Price for CCR divers is $2,050 including taxes, 15 pounds of scrubber, tank and bailout tank rental.
